Younger-Onset Alzheimer’s Conference June 25

The Alzheimer’s Association is presenting its 2nd annual Younger-Onset Alzheimer’s Conference June 25, 9 a.m – 12:30 p.m. CST.  “Living Well Beyond a Diagnosis.”

“Over 200,000 individuals under the age of 65 are living with Younger Onset Alzheimer’s,” says Kathy Shockley, Program Director with the Alzheimer’s Association.  “The conference will offer expert insights in the areas of legal considerations, partner intimacy, and mental health, as well as personal stories of living well with a diagnosis.”

Among speakers with a personal story are Nia Mostacero, a 46 year old from San Antonio diagnosed with Younger-Onset and Dr. Ricci Sanchez of Houston, diagnosed with Younger-Onset at the age of 56.

Attendees will also hear from experts on understanding the interface between Younger-Onset dementia and health care, as well as intimacy for younger dementia persons and their families.

“Also of great importance to Younger-Onset individuals is legal and financial planning,” says Shockley.  “We’ll be covering that topic as well.”

Finally, world-renowned cellist and El Paso Pro-Musica Artistic Director and Grammy Award Winning Artistic Director Zuill Bailey will join the conference live from Sitka, Alaska, where each June, he is the Artistic Director of the Sitka Summer Music Festival.

“El Paso Pro-Musica is a proud partner of the Alzheimer’s Association of West Texas to help provide much needed music to soothe, heal and comfort,” says Janet Cross, Program Manager with the West Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association based in El Paso.  “He will play soothing and comforting music for all, open it up for questions, and engage with the entire audience.”
