Crescent City Dentistry delivers dental excellence

LAPLACE — Cleopatra E. Thompson knew she wanted to be a dentist by the time she was 15 years old. Her career aspirations were shaped by her experiences with her childhood dentist and orthodontist; a transformed smile proved to be a huge confidence booster for her, and she wanted the opportunity to do the same for others.
Thompson initially opened Crescent City Dentistry in Harahan in 2004. Patients from the St. Charles Parish area patronized her practice and often expressed that the St. Rose community was in need of a dentist. In 2010, Thompson found Crescent City Dentistry had outgrown its previous location, and she made the decision to move her practice to 10964 River Road in St. Rose.

For the past 10 years, Crescent City Dentistry has provided unmatched dental care to patients in the community. Thompson and her team offer a myriad of services, from Botox/Juvederm fillers and natural looking dentures/partials to cosmetic services such as veneers, crowns and teeth whitening.

Fastbraces are a popular orthodontic treatment option among adults and children. While traditional braces involve a long, multi-step process, fastbraces move roots and crowns at the same time, drastically reducing treatment time.

Removal of wisdom teeth and root canals are also offered in St. Rose, with free consultations and second opinions available as well. Thompson said patients benefit from regular cleanings and exams, which are essential preventative steps in maintaining dental and physical health.

“The overall health of the body starts with the oral cavity. What we eat and how we care for our teeth impacts the various vital organs of the body,” Thompson said.

She said every person should strive to maintain a diet low in sugar and acids, especially since acidic foods can erode the enamel of the teeth.

“Enamel, unfortunately, once damaged cannot repair itself. Diets high in sugar can lead to cavities, and this also destroys the natural enamel,” Thompson said. “Be sure to see the dentist twice a year and do not ignore signs of swellings in the mouth or bleeding gums or even pain. Maintaining preventative care with dental cleanings and exams twice a year helps to see or prevent a potential problem early on.”

Crescent City Dentistry stands out from other dental offices in the region with its customer service and flexible hours.

“We offer early appointments before work, late appointments after work and Saturdays. We have received tremendous feedback since we began to offer our patients these hours,” Thompson said.

Karen Hutchinson has gone to Crescent City Dentistry for all of her dental needs for well over a decade. She has followed Thompson from the Harahan to the St. Rose location, and several of her family members have followed suit.

“I get that loving kind of family-oriented feel when I go there,” Hutchinson said. “It’s a very friendly atmosphere, very welcoming, and I feel that Dr. Thompson has been very thorough. My daughter, my mother and my sister go there. Pretty much all of our family goes there.”

The dedicated staff also makes the office unique, according to Thompson. She applauds each of the team members for their continued dedication to serving the community, even in the midst of a pandemic.

While COVID-19 has created some changes in the office, Crescent City Dentistry has always operated under strict OSHA and state board laws while taking universal precautions. Staff has worn masks, surgical gowns, protective eyewear and gloves, in addition to completing thorough cleaning and sterilization of instruments and operatories/treatment rooms.

Thompson said COVID-19 has further heightened protocols already in place by layering in social distancing and temperature checks. Patients fill out an additional form with questions pertaining to COVID-19 and dental care.
