Lower energy bills: Weatherization services available to St. John residents

LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish residents may be eligible for weatherization services to improve heating and cooling efficiency and reduce energy costs.

This program is federally funded through the Department of Energy and administered through the Louisiana Housing Corporation. It is being offered locally through the St. John the Baptist Parish Department of Health and Human Services.

Residents can qualify for weatherization services whether they rent or own a home, according to parish administration. Services include: client education, air-sealing, insulation of attic and walls, pressure pan diagnostics, proper exhaust venting, eliminating related hazards, installing smoke and CO alarms, removing unvented space heaters and installing vented heaters.

Monthly income requirements are as follows:

The Louisiana Housing Corporation states that the following information is needed to apply: Last four consecutive copies of check stubs for all employed household members 18 years of age or older, Proof of unearned income (Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Pension Funds, Disability, etc.), Proof of present address (rent receipt, lease or deed, etc.), A copy of a current gas, electric or propane bill, a valid driver’s license or picture ID of all household members 18 years of age or older, and a copy of Social Security cards for all household members.
