Keller: Give thanks to God for the good & the bad
Before I was saved, I had at least five Bibles in my house. I would occasionally open one and glance through it, but never seriously read it.
I became a Christian in October of 1980. I then started going to a Bible study group and attended a church that preached the Word of God.
One of the first sermons I heard referred to James, Chapter 1: 2-3, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. ” In other words, we are to thank God, not only for the good things that happen, but also when we face bad experiences.
The very next week, I had a flat tire on the Spillway Bridge near Norco. I remembered that sermon and began thanking God for the flat. I didn’t feel comfortable doing that, but did it and immediately said, “God, you better send someone to change this flat, because you know I’ve never changed a flat tire.
Within five minutes, a car pulled up ahead of me and stopped. It was my friendGene Duhe of Garyville. He asked, “What are you doing?”
Sarcastically, I answered, “I’m fishing! Come and change this flat tire.”
He laughed and changed the tire. I was grateful and thanked God for sending Gene when I needed help.
