Bulldogs pull out late victory

NAPOLEONVILLE – T.R. Ricks scored on a 57-yard run with 5:10 left in thegame to lift Lutcher to a 29-22 victory over Assumption Friday night.

Lutcher improved to 4-1 with its fourth straight victory while Assumption fell to 2-3 on the season.

Brad Hill had given the Mustangs a 22-21 lead with 6:04 left in the contest with a 47-yard run. Brad Diaz’s extra point gave Assumption itsfirst lead of the game.

Lutcher came right back with Ricks’ run. Damian Ursin then passed toShane Duhe on the halfback option for the two-point conversion, putting the Bulldogs ahead to stay.

Lutcher jumped out to a 15-7 lead at the half. Lane Zimmer opened thescoring with a 26-yard field goal with 4:04 left in the first quarter.

Wesley Louque scored from 7-yards out with 9:43 left in the half. The kickfailed, leaving the score 9-0.

Assumption pulled to within 9-7 on a 15-yard pass from Rusty Bergeron to Brad Hill with 7:49 remaining. But the Bulldogs answered with 18 secondsleft before halftime as Kenneth Johnson gathered in a punt at his 37 and took it the distance. The two-point try failed but the Bulldogs had an 8-point halftime lead.

Assumption tied the score late in the third quarter on a 7-yard run by Hill.

Bergeron then passed to Rudy August for the two-point conversion, tying the score at 15 with 1:02 left in the third quarter.

Ricks put the Bulldogs ahead with 7:46 left in the fourth quarter by connecting with Ursin on a 14-yard scoring strike. The kick failed, leavingthe score at 21-15.

Lutcher gained 281 yards while Assumption had 295 yards in total offense. The Bulldogs gained 207 yards on the ground.Lutcher hosts Vandebilt Catholic while Assumption travels to South Terrebonne.

WEST ST. JOHN 28PORT SULPHUR 6

PORT SULPHUR – Jamar Bailey ran for 111 yards and scored twice as West St. John won its third straight game, 28-6, at Port Sulphur Friday night.The Rams improved to 3-2 on the season while Port Sulphur fell to 1-3.

Bailey opened the scoring with a 9-yard run in the first quarter. The snapon the extra point attempt was high but Brian Lumar grabbed it and passed to Bailey for the conversion to give the Rams an 8-0 lead.

Still in the first quarter, Lumar caught a 52-yard scoring strike from Carl Gauthier. The two-point try failed, leaving the score at 14-0. Lumar would catch five passes in the game for 103 yards. Gauthierfinished the game completing 10-of-19 passes for 146 yards.

Poche built the lead to 20-0 in the third quarter with a 9-yard run. BlakeSylve pulled the Bronchos closer with a 11-yard run in the fourth quarter but Bailey put the game away with a 6-yard run.

Poche added 63 yards on 13 carries as the Rams rushed for 204 yards in the game. The Rams’ defense intercepted two passes and forced fivefumbles, recovering two, while limiting Port Sulphur to 53 yards passing.

West St. John opens District 9-2A play next Friday with a home gameagainst Riverside.
